Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith and in purity. – 1 Timothy 4:12

A sense of humble pride and joy filled the sanctuary as the youths in our church organized the annual Youth Sunday Service yesterday.

Better known as the i-Youth, the group of more than 40 teenagers is under the charge of Rev. Lisa Ting, and assisted by a team of dedicated advisers.

In his inaugural speech as i-Youth President, Y.H. Wong thanked the good Pastor and advisers for their love and support. Among other updates, the sixteen year-old Form Four student also took the opportunity to introduce the committee members for the current year to the congregation.

Overcoming her trepidation, i-Youth member Y. T. Huong in her testimony related how she felt when her parents first encouraged her to attend the weekly Saturday night gathering. “For the first two years I really struggled – I’d rather stay at home instead of attending the gathering. The turning point was during the Youth Convention held in Curtin University last December. In one of the talks it dawned upon me that that I was a backslider. Praise God I was able to overcome my shortcomings,” conceded the Form Three student of SMK Chung Hua.

Rev. Lisa Ting in her sermon expounded on the problems that the youths faced today. Quoting 1 Samuel 17:45, she reminded the youths to trust in God like David did when meeting the “Goliaths” in their lives.

The youths handled the ushering, music, Scripture reading and offering. It was a joy to see the love for God in their eyes as they presented their views on faith and love. A video clip on the youths’ activities as well as comments from some parents was also shown to the congregation.

Before the service concluded, the i-Youth choir presented two songs much to the delight of all present. Following that every member of the congregation was appreciated with a packet of homemade “Ai Xin” cookies made by the youths.

The i-Youth and their advisers certainly deserve a pat on their shoulders for presenting such a memorable Youth Sunday. All glory to God!
