The Miri Methodist District Youth Choir wowed the crowd.

MIRI – The 5th annual Christmas Parade has brought joy to the people of Miri with a big celebration at City Fan on the evening of Dec 8.

Despite a slight drizzle at the beginning of the parade, the weather took a turn for the better much to the delight of the organizers, participants and spectators.

The Methodist Church is among the 16 participating churches taking part in this year’s event organized jointly by the Miri City Council and a committee of churches from the various denominations.

Themed “Jesus Christ, Great Joy to the World”, this year’s event is officially endorsed by the Sarawak Tourism Board.

The Methodist contingent was led by Rev. Dato’ Dr. Su Chii Ann, President of the Sarawak Chinese Annual Conference (SCAC).

Also present were Rev. Esther Law, the District Superintendent of the Miri Methodist Churches and Rev. Ling Biu, the Vice-Chairman for 2012 Miri Christmas Parade Organizing Committee, pastors and church leaders.

In his message, Parade Organizing Chairman Venerable Archdeacon Canon Solomon Cheong thanked God for the opportunity to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ.

He also thanked the Datuk Bandar Majlis Bandaraya Miri Lawrence Lai Yew Son and all the sponsors for their support. “All the offerings collected today will go to the Miri Palliative Home Care and the Sarawak Children’s Cancer Society, ” he added.

The guest of honor was the Sarawak Assistant Minister for Communication, Datuk Lee Kim Shin.

Among the evening’s highlights was the 70-member Methodist Youth Choir led by conductor Bong Wui Choo, the Music Director of the Miri Methodist District. Their rendition of ‘Little Baby Jesus’ and “Go tell it on the mountain’ added much blessed wow to the Christmas cheer of the evening.
