Blood donation @ Mei Ann Admin March 26, 2013 Community outreach, Social Concerns Ministry The donors in action by James TC Wong MAR 25, MIRI – More than 90 Methodist congregational members responded to giving blood at Mei Ann MC yesterday. The mobile event was organized by the Miri Methodist District Social Concerns Ministry in collaboration with the Miri Hospital Blood Bank. Magdalene Huang, the Chairperson of Social Concerns Committee, praised the donors for their care and love for the Miri community. She was also encouraged to see more youths coming forward, responding to the call of blessing others. “This will definitely help to ensure that the Blood Bank has a constant supply of fresh blood,” she said. 21-year old Chong Zhi-Hao was jittery initially but eventually overcame his fear. “Being a first-timer I was actually reluctant to donate blood but my friend managed to convince me. Upon my turn, it was too late to back out because the needle was already in my arm. Later I felt fine following a short rest. This act of giving is really meaningful to me,” commented the Year One Diploma in Business Curtin student from Batu Pahat, Johor. As a result of this outreach, 70 blood bags (450ml each) were collected during the three-hour session. Two more such events for this year have been scheduled on Jul 14 (Hwai En MC) and Nov 17 (Life MC). With the Methodist Hope Center and the Methodist Children’s Home at the forefront, the Social Concerns outreach is widely recognized in responding to the welfare and health needs of the Miri community.
